A Saudi Arabian university has partnered with two Chinese academic institutions. Their goal is to develop AceGPT, an artificial intelligence system customized for the Arabic language.

In a collaborative effort with the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, two esteemed Chinese universities have come together to create AceGPT. This robust language model, named AceGPT, is built on Meta’s Llama 2 framework.

It was officially introduced by a distinguished Chinese-American professor at KAUST. This introduction was made in collaboration with the School of Data Science at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHKSZ), and the Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data (SRIBD).

As per the details available on the project’s GitHub page, this model is intentionally crafted to function as a skilled AI assistant for Arabic-speaking users. It can effectively respond to queries in Arabic. However, it’s important to emphasize that it might not consistently yield satisfactory outcomes when dealing with other languages.

Adopting a proactive stance, the developers have enhanced the model’s capability to identify potential misuse. This includes handling sensitive information, generating harmful content, disseminating misinformation, or failing safety checks. Users are strongly urged to use this technology responsibly due to the lack of a thorough safety assessment.

The developers stress the significance of discretion, stating, “We have not conducted a thorough safety assessment of the model, so users should exercise caution. We cannot emphasize enough the importance of responsible and careful use of our model.”

China and Saudi Arabia Collaboration Unveils AceGPT for Arabic AI and Saudi Arabia’s Tech Advancements

China and Saudi Arabia Collaborate on an AI System Grounded in the Arabic Language

AceGPT has been created by combining open-source data with data carefully curated by the researchers. This groundbreaking development aligns with Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to position itself as a regional leader in cutting-edge technologies, especially in the field of AI.

The central bank of Saudi Arabia recently partnered with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority on token and payment projects. This collaboration serves as a clear demonstration of the nation’s dedication to advancing the digital landscape.

Furthermore, earlier this year, the Saudi government entered into a partnership with The Sandbox metaverse platform. This move has significantly advanced its ambitions in the metaverse arena.

Additionally, within the sphere of semiconductor exports, U.S. regulators have initiated discussions with AI chip manufacturers Nvidia and AMD.

They are urging these manufacturers to limit the export of their high-level semiconductor chips, which play a pivotal role in AI development, to “certain” Middle Eastern countries. However, it’s crucial to emphasize that U.S. regulators have not explicitly prohibited such exports to the Middle East region.
